Have you ever failed at something and felt like giving up? At one point or another everyone does, from parents and children, to students and teachers, to doctors and scientists. It’s completely normal. But what matters is what you do when that happens.
While failing at something, big or small, can make you want to give up and throw in the towel, developing a “growth mindset” will teach you to look at failure in a totally different way.
It’ll show you not to give up when things get tough, but instead to try, try, try again. Once you start practicing growth mindset, it can set you apart from others and help you to succeed in situations where others won’t. It’ll be like your mind won’t accept that something is impossible to do, because to you there will always be a way to succeed at something even if getting there isn’t easy.
In fact, so many of today’s heroes, such as the frontline workers and the people who developed the COVID-19 vaccine, have growth mindset. They are people who learn from each failure they have had and constantly work to find new ways to use what they have learned to figure out answers to things that may seem impossible.
That’s why training yourself to have a growth mindset is so important. It’s a tool that enables your brain to process failures differently and can be an amazing asset to have.
What’s a growth mindset exactly?
The concept originated in psychologist Carol S. Dweck‘s book, Mindset: The Psychology of Success.
Essentially, a growth mindset is the belief that one’s intelligence improves through study and practice and failure—it teaches you to believe that you can learn what it takes to be successful and how to turn perceived failures into growth.
For example, people with a growth mindset tend to see challenges as opportunities to grow because they understand that they can improve their abilities by pushing themselves instead of them instantly giving up when a challenge comes their way.
If you can develop that mindset as a child, it’ll stay with you as you get older and not only help you in your personal life, but in your professional life, too.
To help you get into this “nothing can keep me down” attitude that’s a trademark of the growth mindset, we rounded up not just a few, but 100 of our favorite growth mindset quotes. Each one of them will encourage you to keep a growth mindset no matter what you’re going through.
